Impossible Futures Lab — the Dusk Wing

Which weird future is worth building toward — and what would humans actually do inside it?

How this world works. By 2042, four pressures did most of the work. Heat: wet-bulb nights made waste heat, not energy, the thing cities ration, so schedules and rooms moved toward the cool. Proof: once anything could be generated, being believed required a body or a signature, so presence became a paid profession and its refusal became an art. Care: aging societies with thin families made care hours the scarcest labor, so kinship turned contractual and shelter turned communal. Standing: courts kept extending voice — to rivers, the dead, the past itself — and then had to decide when a voice expires. Each of the fourteen accessions is a human adaptation to one or two of these pressures; every link in the atlas says how one adaptation enables, feeds, echoes, strains or co-opts another.

2034
Moves the world between 2028 and 2042. Concepts become latent, emerging, dominant, contested or failed.
Choosing a provocation applies it; choosing an active one removes it. Several can be active.

World state

Everything below is recomputed from the year, the active provocations and the status of each accession. Indicator arithmetic is shown, not hidden.

    1Constellation atlas

Select an accession (click, or Tab then Enter; arrow keys move between stars). Node shape shows its status in the current year; failed futures sink. Line style shows the kind of relationship.

      2Worth building toward?

Build score = lens base judgement + phase in the current year + provocation re-scoring + the pull of active neighbors. Change the lens and the answer changes; that is the point.

        3Collision engine

The left accession is the host (its mechanism), the right is the graft (the world it lands in). Order matters. Results are deterministic: the same pair, year, lens and provocations always yield the same collision.

Pick two accessions and generate. Try Witness Payroll × Unsigned Salon, or Fading Archive × Fiduciary Ghosts.

        4Signal deck

Hold up to four accessions or collisions. Order is your ranking. Notes are your decision rationale and go into the export.

        5World coherence ledger

What your world has to believe, where it contradicts itself, and what it still cannot answer — recomputed from deck, year, lens and provocations.

              6Dusk Shift, 2042 — a night inside the world

A short branching encounter. It reads the 2042 state of the world as your provocations have bent it, and your lens colors the opening. Each ending yields a field note you can log to the ledger and a pair of accessions to collide.
